The Boston Bruins began their three-game road trip on Wednesday night with a 5-3 victory over the struggling Colorado Avalanche. With the win, Boston improved their record to 3-2-0, while Colorado’s surprising skid continues at 0-4-0. Fortunately for the Bruins, they appear to have avoided any significant injuries, which is where this edition of Boston Bruins News starts.
### Brad Marchand Avoids Major Injury
There was concern for Bruins fans when captain Brad Marchand left the game after colliding with Mikko Rantanen in the second period. He missed the remainder of that period and part of the third but returned to finish the game.
“Brad’s fine, just a spasm,” coach Jim Montgomery reassured.
Though Marchand has three assists so far this season after undergoing offseason surgeries, losing him to injury would have been a major blow. Fans should expect him to take several “maintenance days” between games to ensure his health.
### Joonas Korpisalo Earns His First Win as a Bruin
Although it wasn’t the cleanest win, Joonas Korpisalo picked up his first victory in a Bruins uniform. Acquired in the trade for Linus Ullmark with Ottawa, Korpisalo had a rough start to the season, allowing six goals in the Bruins’ opening 6-4 loss to Florida.
After Jeremy Swayman started the next three games, Korpisalo was given another chance against Colorado. He made 20 saves and allowed three power-play goals, but it was enough to secure the win and hopefully build his confidence moving forward.
### Former Bruin Anton Strålman Retires
Defenseman Anton Strålman, who briefly played with the Bruins during their record-setting 2022-23 season, has reportedly retired. Strålman appeared in just eight games with Boston and ended the season without a point. Last year, he played 48 games in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) for HV71, tallying two goals and 14 assists. He is now coaching Skultorps IF, a Swedish women’s soccer team.
### Tyler Pitlick Signs PTO with Providence
Veteran forward Tyler Pitlick has signed a professional tryout (PTO) contract with the Providence Bruins. Pitlick, who had one goal and three assists in 34 games with the New York Rangers last season, will be an interesting player to watch. Whether this move leads to something significant down the road remains to be seen.
