As the NHL offseason draws to a close, the Boston Bruins still haven’t secured a top goalie for the 2024-25 season. Star goaltender Jeremy Swayman’s contract situation has been dragging on throughout the summer, and with September and training camp approaching, he remains unsigned as a restricted free agent. Bruins GM Cam Neely addressed the issue on WZLX’s The Rich Shertenlieb Show on August 22, providing an update that was reassuring but still left some questions unanswered. Neely stated, “Something will get done. There’s no doubt about that. Not every negotiation goes smoothly. I know our fans would have liked to see this resolved by now, but I’m confident that both sides will reach an agreement soon.”
Swayman, who had an impressive regular season with a 25-10-8 record, a .916 save percentage, and a 2.53 GAA in 44 games, also excelled in the postseason with a .933 save percentage and a 2.15 GAA. The Bruins aim to secure him on a long-term deal through his prime years, and with $8.6 million in salary cap space available, they have ample room to finalize a contract. Despite the ongoing delay, Neely’s optimism suggests that a deal is expected to be completed before the start of the next season.
