After another defeat to Alabama and a shaky performance against Mississippi State recently, confidence in Georgia football is starting to dip. This may have influenced the decision of top quarterback prospect Jared Curtis.
The five-star recruit, who committed to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs in March, has now decommitted, as reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3. Curtis is considering several schools following this change, including Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, USC, Clemson, and South Carolina.
This development is far from ideal for Georgia, especially with a huge matchup against Texas just days away. Curtis, a 6-foot-4 quarterback from Nashville, Tennessee, is ranked second at his position and eighth overall in the 2026 recruiting class, according to On3. He has already racked up 1,624 passing yards and 18 touchdowns in seven games this season for Nashville Christian School, showcasing his strong arm.
With Curtis back on the market, there’s likely to be fierce competition from the schools mentioned and possibly more, as the NIL landscape comes into play.
For Kirby Smart, this situation adds to the challenges of securing the Bulldogs’ future offense. But for now, all focus is on Saturday’s crucial road game against the No. 1 team in the country.
Georgia, with one loss already, is nearing a critical point. A win against Texas is essential to stay in the SEC title race. The Bulldogs will need to disrupt Texas’ offense and test their defense with Carson Beck leading the charge.
A victory in Austin could reassert Georgia’s standing as a powerhouse, though Jared Curtis won’t be part of their future success.
