Houston Astros legend Roy Oswalt has made his stance on Alex Bregman clear, urging the team to keep him. Bregman, drafted by the Astros as the No. 2 overall pick in 2015, just finished his eighth season with the club.
After signing a five-year, $100 million deal in 2019, his contract has expired, making the 30-year-old a free agent, and raising questions about his future with the team.
Oswalt took to X (formerly Twitter) to emphasize his opinion, writing, “BRING BREGMAN BACK” in all caps.
Others in the Astros organization, including second baseman Jose Altuve, manager Joe Espada, and general manager Dana Brown, have also expressed their desire to retain Bregman. However, the final decision will rest with team owner Jim Crane. Historically, the Astros have been conservative with major contracts, but Bregman could command a significant deal. With Matt Chapman securing a six-year, $151 million contract from the Giants, Bregman is expected to surpass that figure. Whether Houston will meet that price remains to be seen.
