The Chicago Bears are emerging from their bye week to take on the Washington Commanders this Sunday. Through the first seven weeks of the season, the Bears have positioned themselves well. Despite a slow start, their offense found its rhythm with Caleb Williams at quarterback, and with a 4-2 record, they’re now a strong contender in the NFC North.

An interesting aspect of the Bears’ schedule this year is that they won’t face a divisional opponent until Week 11 when they host the Packers. Regardless of Chicago’s record up to that point, those divisional matchups will be crucial in determining playoff spots, given how competitive the NFC North is.
Ahead of the Green Bay game, the Bears made a roster move by signing tight end Joel Wilson to the practice squad. Wilson, who spent last season with the Packers, replaces Tommy Sweeney, who was placed on the practice squad’s injured reserve.
Wilson, 24, was originally signed by the Packers during the 2023 season but was released before the 2024 campaign. He has also been on the practice squads of the Saints, Bills, and Giants but has yet to make his NFL debut. Now, he joins a practice squad that includes former Packers receiver Samori Toure. On the active roster, the Bears have Cole Kmet, Gerald Everett, and Marcedes Lewis at tight end, so Wilson will likely need to wait for an opportunity due to injury before getting a chance to move up.
