It would be surprising if the Miami Dolphins made any trades before the deadline. General Manager Chris Grier is unlikely to break up the team, as doing so could cost him his job if Miami continues to struggle, possibly leading to owner Stephen Ross replacing him at the end of the season.
The Dolphins are not expected to acquire new players either, as they’re not in a position to invest in a team that’s been faltering even against weaker competition. Instead, Miami is more likely to stay put and let the season unfold, with Grier hoping to convince Ross that the team’s setbacks in 2024 were due to unfortunate circumstances.
Nevertheless, trade discussions will occur, and if I were one of these three players, I might initiate a conversation myself. There’s little reason to keep certain players tied to this situation. Miami needs to consider its long-term plans.
### Three Players the Dolphins Should Trade Before the Deadline:
**Raheem Mostert**
Raheem Mostert has continued to showcase his ability to run the ball effectively, scoring two touchdowns last Sunday despite limited carries. If Grier truly wanted to give Mostert a shot at a Super Bowl, he would trade him to a playoff-contending team in need of a running back.
Mostert is over 30, and his chances of winning a championship are diminishing. While the Dolphins have gotten solid production from him, they’ve ultimately fallen short of his goals. Letting him go would give him a better shot at a ring, and Miami could focus more on Jaylen Wright moving forward.
**Calais Campbell**
Calais Campbell has been the Dolphins’ best defensive lineman, but he joined the team with hopes of competing for a Super Bowl, something that seems unlikely this year. Trading him to a team with a realistic shot would make sense.
At this point, Miami doesn’t need Campbell, and they could use the rest of the season to develop younger defensive linemen. Moving him could also net a late-round draft pick, which would be valuable in the long run.
**Jevon Holland**
Jevon Holland had a solid performance on Sunday, but with free agency looming after the season, now might be the right time to trade him and allow another team to offer him the contract he deserves.
Holland is set to earn a significant payday in free agency, but Grier can’t bank on getting a compensatory third-round pick if they lose him. Trading him now could provide a better return than overpaying him or losing him for minimal compensation. Trading him would also give Holland a chance to finish the season with a stronger team.
