The Washington Commanders are gearing up for a crucial Week 9 showdown, heading on the road to face NFC East rivals, the New York Giants. This favorable matchup sees the Commanders entering MetLife Stadium as the favored team.
The Giants, winless at home with a 0-4 record and 2-6 overall, appear to give Washington (6-2) a strong chance to continue their impressive season. With rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels generating MVP chatter, a win could be a significant boost for Washington’s campaign.
Following the game, Washington may be active at the trade deadline, which comes just after Week 9. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler highlighted “under-the-radar” players attracting trade interest, including Commanders’ defensive back Darrick Forrest. Once a starter, Forrest has fallen out of Washington’s rotation and may be seeking a “fresh start.”
“Washington’s Darrick Forrest is in a similar situation, a former starter who’s out of the rotation and could need a fresh start elsewhere,” Fowler reported.
With the recent addition of general manager Adam Peters, the Commanders are expected to make moves to support Daniels. However, sometimes selling can be beneficial amid trade-deadline activity. Forrest, who has appeared in just three games this season without any starts, could be a trade candidate.
Despite a strong 2022 season with 11 starts, four interceptions, and 88 tackles, Forrest has seen limited action this year. Washington’s safety depth appears solid, so moving Forrest could provide an opportunity for him to reboot his career while allowing the Commanders to strengthen other areas.
