Vodney Cleveland announced his commitment to Alabama football on Thursday, opting to join the Crimson Tide over several other top programs.
Vodney Cleveland, one of the top defensive line prospects for the class of 2026, announced his commitment to Alabama football. A standout at Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, Cleveland currently holds a four-star rating.
His choice to join Alabama came down to several factors, including the opportunity to work under head coach Kalen DeBoer and defensive line coach Freddie Roach. “First off, just coach DeBoer and the coaching staff, coach Roach,” Cleveland explained about his decision. “They recruited me hard, and I feel like coach Roach is going to develop me into a great defensive lineman. I believe they have a plan in store for me.”
Coach Roach played a key role in securing Cleveland’s commitment, building a close relationship that Cleveland described warmly. “Every time we talk, it feels like I’m his nephew,” Cleveland shared with Touchdown Alabama. “He sees a lot in me and knows what I can bring to the D-line.”
Alabama has historically benefited from top in-state defensive linemen, including Alabama natives Tim Keenan and James Smith, both current contributors. Cleveland looks up to them and sees himself following in their footsteps. “It means a lot, especially watching Tim Keenan. I kind of see myself as him, coming in and playing hard. James Smith, a great guy—I grew up watching him play at Carver. It’s just a blessing to have the chance to play alongside them and work hard.”
