DONE DEAL JUST NOW: Maple Leafs Trade Acquiring $52 Million Blockbuster deal done just now

The Toronto Maple Leafs have prioritized strengthening their defense this offseason, and one potential trade could further enhance that effort.

Trading Nick Robertson to Winnipeg may be the most logical option

Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, a fan suggested a trade that would bring Colton Parayko from the St. Louis Blues to Toronto.

In this proposal, the Maple Leafs would receive:

– Colton Parayko

While the Blues would get:

– Timothy Liljegren
– Fraser Minten
– Nick Robertson
– David Kämpf

This trade would be a blockbuster move for Toronto, adding Parayko, who has five years remaining on his eight-year, $52 million contract with the Blues. Parayko could solidify a spot as a top-four defenseman with the Leafs, significantly boosting their blue line.

Parayko, who won a Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019 under coach Craig Berube—now the Maple Leafs’ head coach—played all 82 games last season, tallying 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points.

While Toronto would part with significant assets, the Blues would gain younger players to support their rebuilding efforts. Liljegren, a 25-year-old former first-round pick, has struggled to secure a regular spot in the Leafs’ lineup. Minten, a second-round pick in 2022, made the Leafs out of training camp last season but didn’t stick, though he could potentially crack the Blues’ roster.

Robertson, who has requested a trade and has no plans to re-sign with Toronto, could be a top-six forward for the Blues. Finally, Kämpf, a fourth-line center, would be included to help balance the trade financially.

Maple Leafs GM Hints at More Moves

NHL training camps are set to begin in September, with the season kicking off in October, signaling that the offseason is nearly over.

Despite this, Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has suggested that more roster moves could be on the horizon.

“We’re not set yet. We continue to look at ways to make our team better,” Treliving mentioned on TSN 1050’s OverDrive. “I said at the end of the year we’re going to look at everything. Sometimes people get caught up in making a big change just for the sake of it. But if the change doesn’t actually improve your team, there’s no point in doing it just to say you did.”

With just over $1.2 million in cap space, the Maple Leafs have some room to maneuver for another move. While the specifics remain uncertain, Toronto has been linked to potential acquisitions of left-wingers.

Parayko Mentioned as Trade Candidate

Despite Colton Parayko being under contract for another five seasons, his name has surfaced as a potential trade target.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period included Parayko on his summer trade watch list, noting that the Maple Leafs could be one of the teams interested in acquiring him.

“Parayko’s name continues to circulate in trade discussions, as it has for the past two seasons. He has a full no-trade clause and five more years on his contract. It would require a significant deal, along with his approval, to make a trade happen. However, the Blues are exploring their options and appear determined to move at least one of their defensemen this offseason,” Pagnotta wrote.

Parayko has played in 659 NHL games, tallying 61 goals and 198 assists for a total of 259 points.
