According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Yankees are expressing interest in right-handed pitcher Carlos Estevez. Earlier this week, Morosi reported that New York had been one of the more proactive teams engaging with agents for several free-agent relievers at the GM Meetings, with Estevez now emerging as the first specific target.
It’s not surprising that the defending American League champions are exploring bullpen upgrades early, as they may face the loss of Clay Holmes, Tommy Kahnle, and Tim Hill in free agency this offseason.
Estevez is among the top relievers available and would be a strong addition, coming off a solid season in which he recorded a 2.45 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP, while closing out 26 games for the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies.
