STAPPING UP: Josh Jobe Set to Stay with Seattle Seahawks for Another Season

Josh Jobe has been elevated from the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad to the active roster after playing in the team’s last three games as a practice-squad call-up. To play against the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, Seattle needed to sign Jobe to their 53-man roster, which they did on Monday.

Under NFL rules, teams can elevate two practice-squad players to active status for each game, and Jobe was called up for three consecutive weeks, playing 73% of Seattle’s defensive snaps during that stretch. However, players can only be elevated from the practice squad three times per season, so Jobe needed to be placed on the active roster to continue playing.

To make room for Jobe, the Seahawks waived linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who had started every game this season, played nearly every defensive snap, and led the team in tackles. Dodson, signed as a free agent in March, was released to clear a spot on the roster for the cornerback.

Jobe, an undrafted rookie in 2022, previously played 11 regular-season games and in Super Bowl LVII with the Philadelphia Eagles, starting three games last season. After being cut by the Eagles in August, Jobe was signed to Seattle’s practice squad. With injuries at cornerback, Jobe has seen increased playing time, including in nickel packages and as an outside corner alongside Riq Woolen, with Devon Witherspoon moving to the slot. Notably, Jobe recorded his first NFL interception with a 33-yard return in the Seahawks’ loss to the Buffalo Bills on October 22.
