The New York Yankees are determined to bring superstar Juan Soto back to the Bronx this offseason. Soto is expected to command a massive contract in the $600 million to $700 million range, and the Yankees are prepared to compete with other teams until he either re-signs with them or chooses another destination. New York is fully committed financially to the Soto sweepstakes, but they recognize the need for a broader strategy given the competition for his signature. Soto has numerous suitors, so there’s no guarantee he will return to the Yankees.
Jon Heyman of the *New York Post* reports that the Yankees are “in on everyone,” including star pitchers like Blake Snell, Corbin Burnes, and Max Fried, as well as top-tier relievers. However, these options become more realistic if Soto signs elsewhere. If the Yankees lose out on Soto, they could pivot to a backup plan involving one or two elite pitchers, trades, and other free agents. Even if Soto returns, the Yankees might still have room to pursue Blake Snell on a short-term deal or Max Fried on a longer contract. Clearing salary, such as moving Marcus Stroman’s contract, could make these moves easier to execute.
