Yankees’ Juan Soto Sweepstakes Heating Up with Five Contract Offers Reportedly on the Table
Yankees star Juan Soto has been making waves in MLB free agency, reportedly spending last week in Southern California alongside his agent Scott Boras. Soto’s meetings with various teams aimed to explore potential fits and outline his future plans for the next decade. While initial reports suggested that numbers were not discussed during these meet-and-greets, new information paints a different picture.
According to NJ.com, Soto has already received formal offers from four MLB teams. Veteran beat writer Randy Miller reports that five teams, including the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Blue Jays, have made contract proposals to Soto’s camp. These offers were reportedly presented late last week, providing Soto with tangible numbers to consider as he weighs his options.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post had earlier noted that formal offers were unlikely during initial meetings, stating, “There were no offers from what I understand at these meetings… I think they thought it would be gauche to do the offers at that point.” However, it seems discussions on contract terms have since progressed.
This development could accelerate Soto’s decision-making timeline, with negotiations and counteroffers expected as Soto and Boras finalize details. Potential option clauses, allowing Soto flexibility during the contract term, are also likely to be a focal point of discussions.
With the MLB winter meetings set to begin on December 9 in Dallas, the Yankees might not have to wait long to know their fate regarding Soto. This process appears to be moving faster than anticipated, unlike the drawn-out timeline followed by Shohei Ohtani last offseason. Soto’s decision could also unblock movement in the broader free agency market, which has seen limited activity as teams await clarity on his future.
