Earlier on Monday, Arizona State secured a former 5-star cornerback through the transfer portal by signing Nyland Green from Purdue. Just hours later, they further strengthened their cornerback depth by adding Green’s teammate, Kyndrich Breedlove.
Breedlove, a Tennessee native, will be playing for his fourth team, with one year of eligibility remaining, which will be his last. He was initially a 4-star recruit out of high school, committing to Ole Miss. After redshirting his first year, he entered the transfer portal but decided to stay for another season. However, a year later, he transferred to Colorado shortly after Deion Sanders was hired as head coach. After a difficult 2023 season, Breedlove moved to Purdue, where the Boilermakers fired their head coach following a 1-11 finish.
Despite Purdue’s struggles, Breedlove earned a starting role and played in every game, leading the team with three interceptions. However, he allowed 70% of passes thrown his way to be completed and gave up the fourth-most yards after catch in the Big Ten.
Arizona State returns both of its starting cornerbacks from 2024, Keith Abney and Javan Robinson, but lacked depth after losing Keontez Bradley and Cole Martin to the transfer portal and dismissing Laterrance Welch. Additionally, slot defender Shamari Simmons is entering the NFL Draft.

The addition of Green and Breedlove provides Arizona State with experienced depth and offers defensive coordinator Brian Ward the flexibility to move either Abney or Robinson around next season. Given the issues Arizona State’s secondary faced against Quinn Ewers in the College Football Playoff, these two additions should help bolster the Sun Devils’ defense significantly.
