Jumbo Package: Alabama lands another dazzling talent

For some strange reason, recruiting services have continued to list Haywood as committed to Alabama for over a month, even though reports from early December confirmed that Haywood wasn’t coming to Alabama and the Tide had stopped recruiting him.

I wouldn’t normally mention this, but since not much else happened yesterday with Alabama football, here we are.

To put it in perspective, Alabama now has the 4th-ranked recruiting class according to 247Sports and the 2nd overall class according to On3. Texas is slightly ahead for the top spot, with Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon all essentially tied for the next tier. These five teams make up the elite group of college football, while the next tier includes Texas A&M, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, and Notre Dame.

In NFL news, McKinney made his first All-Pro team, joining Humphrey and Surtain, which means Alabama players make up the majority of the best secondary players in the world—definitely hard to beat. Roll Tide!

As for basketball, Auburn fans seem to have nothing better to do than find reasons to be upset. This became a topic over the weekend, and Coach Nate Oats had to address it:

I’ve never seen a fanbase with such a victim complex.

If you want to watch the full press conference, here’s Oats talking before the Ole Miss game.

We got a fun 5-minute segment of Nate talking about the team managers’ basketball games.

Also, here are the injury updates for Alabama and Ole Miss as of Jan. 13:

Alabama Availability Report:

  • Latrell Wrightsell Jr. – Out
  • Houston Mallette – Out
  • Derrion Reid – Questionable

Ole Miss Availability Report:

  • Mikeal Brown-Jones – Questionable

The jab at Alabama at the end was low-hanging fruit, but still a good one.
