COMMITMENT JUST NOW: 5-star defensive backs surprise commitment to Michigan over Texas just now

Despite the game not going as Michigan had hoped, Sherrone Moore and his team still managed to attract several key recruits. As usual, a few players who weren’t initially planned to attend ended up coming, including some four-star defensive backs already committed to other programs.

Leading the list is Brandon Finney, a top-100 overall player and four-star cornerback from the 2025 class, who has been committed to Oregon since June. This update was first reported by EJ Holland of On3.

According to Holland ($), despite Brandon Finney’s commitment to Oregon, defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan has maintained regular contact with him and continues to recruit him. Although Holland believes flipping Finney will be challenging, Michigan has at least managed to capture his interest.

Another notable recruit at the game was 2026 four-star cornerback Dominick Kelly, who was also reported by Holland. Kelly, currently at IMG Academy and committed to Georgia since July, might be swayed by the presence of his IMG Academy teammates, Kayden Strayhorn and Donovan Johnson, who are committed to Michigan. The true likelihood of a flip will become clearer over time.

Finally, 2025 four-star defensive back Elijah Dotson, as first reported by 247Sports’ Allen Trieu ($), attended the game as well. Although Dotson, from Belleville, Michigan, has been committed to Pitt since May and wasn’t initially a priority for Michigan, the coaching staff might be reconsidering. Trieu suggests Dotson could be re-offered by Michigan soon. Despite Dotson notifying Pitt of his visit to Ann Arbor, there’s still a chance for Michigan to make a significant push to flip him if they intensify their efforts.

Overall, even with the loss to Texas, Michigan had several top prospects at the game and is hopeful about making some key recruiting gains.
