Announcement: New York Knicks are desperate to cut ties with $212 million NBA champion, acquire ex-Thunder superstar Kevin Durant

The Phoenix Suns’ 2021 NBA Finals run seems like ancient history.

Less than five years later, the franchise has undergone three head coaching changes and several roster shifts, trying to build a championship-caliber squad but failing each time. The Kevin Durant chapter has worsened each season, resulting in the team negotiating trades for the 15-time All-Star.

One Bleacher Report article proposed trading Durant to the New York Knicks to add another headliner to their star-studded lineup without dishing out any major pieces or future first-round picks.

The article outlined a theoretical package trading Durant for forward OG Anunoby, center Mitchell Robinson, two 2026 second-round picks, one 2027 second-round pick, and two 2028 second-round picks.

“For the Knicks, this would be a third all-in move in about 12 months,” Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey wrote. “And though the window for title contention wouldn’t be open long, it’d certainly be open wide with a starting five of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Bridges, KD and KAT.”

Durant would be at the four as a high-level scorer, complementing Jalen Brunson and Karl Anthony-Towns. It would be his fourth team since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durant has been unable to replicate the same success he did in Golden State, where he won two championships alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. The other Big Threes he’s tried to formulate with the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns have not come to fruition, leaving all options open for his next destination.

The Knicks host the Detroit Pistons (44-38) in Game 1 on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. EST.
