The UNC football program won the race for another top transfer portal quarterbacks

The UNC football program is now linked to another top transfer portal quarterback

Even after landing a commitment from Gio Lopez, it seems that the UNC football program still isn’t satisfied with its quarterback room.

Although Ryan Browne elected to transfer back to Purdue, it felt like the UNC football program was content with the guys they feature on the depth chart.

Sure, no one ruled out a minor addition or two, but it’s doubtful that anyone expected to hear the news that surfaced out of Chapel Hill on Sunday.

The UNC football program is set to host the top-ranked quarterback available for a visit this week.

Chris Hummer of 247Sports was the first to report the news, indicating that the plan is for Georgia transfer Jaden Rashada to visit North Carolina on Wednesday.

Rashada is a former top-50 recruit from the Class of 2023. The Pittsburg, California native began his career atĀ Arizona State, a place where he started several games as a true freshman. He threw for 485 yards and four touchdowns, showcasing a ton of potential over his limited action.

Following the 2023 season, Rashada elected to enter the transfer portal, ending up at Georgia. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned for the talented signal-caller, as he didn’t attempt a single pass in what will likely be his lone season with the Bulldogs.

This is an interesting transfer to say the least, as he’s still viewed as someone with a ton of potential to be QB1 for a College Football Playoff caliber team. While the potential is there, he still is very much an unknown, as it will be a risk for anyone who elects to bring him into their program.

After landing Gio Lopez in the transfer portal, it looked like the Tar Heels were pretty much set at the quarterback position. It was expected that Lopez, along with true freshman Bryce Baker, would compete for the starting gig, while Max Johnson, who suffered a season-ending injury in the UNC football program’s season opener a year ago, would also be in the mix once he has a clean bill of health.

Now, it seems that Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels are still exploring options at the position, looking to put the best depth chart of talent available. While it’s not a guarantee for Rashada to commit to North Carolina, his entry into the starting quarterback battle would make the competition even more enticing to watch.
