5-Star South Carolina Transfer Refutes ‘Lies’ About Her Mom’s Supposed Bag Chasing
MiLaysia Fulwiley is in the transfer portal after spending two seasons at South Carolina. The talented guard is seeking a new home with hopes of more playing time following her previous role off the bench.
Rumors regarding her portal recruitment have since surfaced. She put an end to speculation surrounding what she called “lies” about both her family and her transfer intentions.
Fulwiley signed with Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks as a five-star prospect in the class of 2023. She landed an immediate role on the team as the first player off the bench.
The guard averaged 11.7 points per game in each of her first two seasons. She was named Sixth Player of the Year in the SEC as a sophomore while helping South Carolina reach the national title game. With that said, she’s only made three starts across 76 appearances.
The expectation was that the Columbia, SC native would return to the roster as a junior. That won’t be the case. She entered the transfer portal this offseason, leading to questions about her reasoning.
MiLaysia Fulwiley is not chasing an NIL bag.
She hopped on social media this week to clear her name. There have been whispers that her mom was shopping her around for an NIL payday.
There were also rumors of an upcoming visit to LSU. Some speculated that the Tigers were the frontrunner to land her next commitment.
Fulwiley came out to refute each of those claims. She has NOT planned a visit to Baton Rouge, and she is NOT holding out for the highest bidder.
MiLaysia Fulwiley’s recruitment has been a talking point in women’s college basketball. The guard was linked to Ole Miss earlier in the process, which landed a swift denial from Rebels coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin.
“This is fake news,” she said of the rumors. “I’m tired of y’all speaking on our name for no reason!”
Much like McCuin, Fulwiley wanted to set the record straight on her recruitment. She did not enter the portal for NIL purposes. Her mom is not shopping her to interested suitors. She’s simply looking for the right place to finish her career.
