Jihaad Campbell, a five-star recruit from the 2022 signing class and a New Jersey native, is quickly becoming a dominant force on Alabama’s defense. Now a junior inside linebacker, he leads the Crimson Tide with 20 total tackles and 14 solo tackles after just two games.
Campbell was everywhere on the field against Western Kentucky and South Florida, making multiple plays. He nearly intercepted a pass against the Bulls and has contributed to a defense that’s allowed only one touchdown this season, averaging just eight points against per game. So far, Campbell has recorded 2.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, and a pass breakup. Although South Florida had some success running the ball with quarterback Byrum Brown, Campbell still shined with 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, and a pass breakup in Alabama’s 42-16 win.
Kane Wommack praised Campbell, saying, “Jihaad is an incredibly talented athlete who plays linebacker the right way. He’s relentless in his pursuit, has a high motor, and brings great energy. His effort and finishing are top-notch, and that’s a big reason why he’s leading the team in tackles.”
Campbell’s enforcer mindset will be on full display as Alabama heads to Camp Randall Stadium to face Wisconsin this Saturday.
