Caitlin Clark broke the WNBA single-season assist record as the Indiana Fever fell 78-74 at home to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday.
Clark matched the previous record of 316, set by Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun last year, in the second quarter, and surpassed it in the third.
The rookie finished with nine assists for Indiana, bringing her season total to 321, while also contributing 18 points.
The 22-year-old, who had a standout college career, is enjoying an impressive debut WNBA season, leading the league in assists and three-pointers made.
Clark’s achievement comes just two days after A’ja Wilson broke the single-season scoring record, helping the Aces defeat the Fever 86-75.
Wilson, 28, and a frontrunner for her third WNBA MVP award, scored a game-high 27 points to surpass Jewell Loyd’s previous record of 939 points, set last year.
On Friday, Wilson added 15 points, while Chelsea Gray led the Aces with 21 points, bringing Wilson’s total to 971 points for the season.
With three games remaining, Wilson has the chance to become the first WNBA player to reach 1,000 points in a single season.
