Four-star wide receiver recruit Phillip Wright has recommitted from the Michigan Wolverines. His decision follows the recent news that Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore is among those potentially facing NCAA sanctions related to the Wolverines’ sign-stealing controversy.
Marlowe Alter of the Detroit Free Press reported, “Moore could face a potential suspension and a show-cause penalty for allegedly deleting 52 text messages with former Wolverines analyst Connor Stalions—on the same day in October when media reports identified Stalions as the individual behind the sign-stealing operation.”
Wright initially chose Michigan over the Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers. He was committed to the Wolverines for less than a month.
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound wide receiver, a member of the class of 2025, boasts impressive speed. Although the Georgia Bulldogs have already secured commitments from four wide receivers for the 2025 class, they are unlikely to sign more than one additional prospect at the position.
Ranked as a four-star recruit, Wright plays high school football at Destrehan High School in Destrehan, Louisiana. He is listed as the No. 52 wide receiver nationally by Rivals and stands as the No. 11 recruit in Louisiana.
